Le Bocage International School is a member of the International Baccalaureate since 1993.
From 1997 to date, LBIS students have been registered every year for the IB Diploma and   Diploma courses  as  the sole offer  of the school to students aged 16 – 19.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) (Forms 6 and 7)

The IB Diploma is an internationally recognized qualification which permits entrance to most universities around the world, including Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and the Sorbonne. It is the equivalent of the Mauritian HSC, GCE ‘A’ level in the UK or the French Baccalaureate.

The curriculum aims to be comprehensive, demanding and yet available to qualified candidates throughout the world. Founded on no one individual national system, the IB Diploma represents the desire to provide students of different linguistic, cultural and educational backgrounds with the intellectual, social and critical perspectives necessary for the adult world. The programme, with its six subjects requires students to engage in the study of Languages, Sciences, Mathematics and Individuals and Societies until the completion of your secondary schooling. It is a deliberate compromise between the preference for specialisation in some countries and the emphasis on breadth often preferred in others. IB assessment is both by formal public examination and school-assessed, externally moderated coursework.

At LBIS choosing six subjects from each of the following groups satisfies the requirement for the IB Diploma:

In addition, the Diploma student will complete:
a) An Extended Essay of 4000 words;
b) Theory of Knowledge (TOK) - 2 assignments: 1 written assignment, 1 oral presentation;
c) Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) – at least 150 hours over 2 years.

Further information is also available on the IB Organisation website: www.ibo.org
