LBIS Community Retreat

On Saturday 8th May the school held an LBIS Community Retreat. This followed on from a successful retreat held in 2009. However, there was a change in participants this year to more accurately reflect the whole LBIS school community. All LBIS Board members were invited to the event along with all the teaching, office and technical support staff. Members of the PTA were also invited, along with the student representatives of the Student Representative Council (SRC) from Form 4 to 6, and a representation from the prefect body. Members of the Alumni were also invited to take part, but unfortunately none were available. It is hoped that they will be able to participate next year. In total one hundred and three people were present.

The working element of the retreat involved three main sessions.

  • PROGOS financial analysis for 2009
  • Activity One: The importance of the IBO Learner Profile
  • Activity Two: Reviewing the LBIS vehicles of communication

The general consensus seemed to be that it had been a successful retreat and had given participants a good opportunity to discuss the issues outlined above. A more detailed report on the discussions that took place will be available soon on the school website.

MUN 2010

All the members of Le Bocage MUN club took part in the AIS Model United Nations conference from the 25th of March to the 1st of April 2010 in Cairo, Egypt.

There were 19 students mainly from Form 7 and they represented three countries namely the Ivory Coast, Mauritius and Nigeria.  They were split in different commissions like the Advisory Panel, the Economic and Social council, the Disarmament commission, General Assembly, Youth Assembly, Human Rights amongst others.  The conference lasted over 3 days of endless and rich debate.

Our students were really motivated to write their resolutions, to negotiate and reach consensus. They learnt and applied the rules of procedure and enjoyed being important delegates.  There were high and low moments depending on whether their resolutions were passed or rejected which showed the students’ involvement in the proceedings of the conference.

21 International Schools from different parts of the world were present like China, Tunisia, India, Poland, Jordan among others. Our students had thus the opportunity to meet people from other cultures and tradition and hence leant to be more open and tolerant of others.  To further enhance the cultural dimension, we benefited from a visit to the World Health Organization, the National museum and a camel ride to the pyramids  sealed this trip into an unforgettable experience.

LBIS Swimming Gala

This year's Swimming Gala confirmed the regain in enthusiasm and popularity witnessed last year for this major school event. Attendance and participation was remarkably high and colourful.

New talents showed up in the likes of the Form 1 boy, Darren Wong Chap Lan who won the best swimmer award and Medina Torabally of Form 7, and others confirmed the  hopes we saw in them before like Sandia Scott and of Form 4 and Viktor Kolev of Form 6.

SRC Retreat 2010

The annual SRC Retreat was held on February 4, 2010 at La Pirogue Hotel. The retreat follows the election of SRC members from Forms 1 - 6. The main theme of the retreat was ' Improving LBIS' and the students did quite a good job in identifying the key areas where changes/improvements could be brought to make their study in LBIS interesting and productive.

Theywere also put in situations where they had to show how well they could perform as a group and at the same time bringing out their team leading skills.

Feedback on their performance was given out by the Headmaster, Mr. Andrew Scott, The High School Principal, Mr. Shekar Dewoo, The Middle School Principal, Mr. Robert Roopnaraine and myself.
